The Castillon lake, a natural gem of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

Formed by the EDF Saint-Julien-du-Verdon dam, which was commissioned in 1948, the Castillon lake stretches for over 7 km long for an area of 285 hectares. Its waters, of a characteristic turquoise blue, reflect the limestone cliffs and pine forests that surround it.

The lake is fed by the Verdon, before this wild river enters the famous Gorges. The water is soft, relatively calm and deep enough for swimming. The temperature in July-August often exceeds 22-24 °C — perfect for cooling down after a hike.

The villages of Saint-Julien-du-Verdon and Demandolx overlook the banks, offering breathtaking panoramas. A picturesque road circles the lake, ideal for cycling or driving for a discovery tour.
